Working From Home - Wholesome
After my first month at work from home, I am ready to make a small positive review of the experience so far. I have not been previously working home before so, this has been a breath of fresh air. I have to say that working from home is not a problem at all. Top of all I have a good working environment. Nice comfortable apartment in a good location and quiet enough.
First things first. One of the best things that I absolutely love working from home is that there is not any rush or stress in the morning. I absolutely hate that rush in the morning. Going to shower fast, eating some breakfast and communicating with the bus or walking to work. It is way too hectic and stressful for the mornings. For me it feels that it does not fit for the mornings at all. What is the point of all that stressing in the morning? If you are stressing in the morning your work quality significantly drops. It can affect a whole day. Thoughts like ''oh shoot! I'm going to be late need to rush it up'' or ''Where is the bus and why is it late again?'' are not doing anything positive for you or for your work. In my opinion, being less stressful free and taking that extra half an hour of sleep in the morning is a blessing.
The second positive experience for me is the serenity of working alone. Intermittent speech can be incredibly burdening. Open office can be a hassle. There is too much noise distractions time to time. Especially in service desk. I think the whole open office concept became a trend because of the expenses are lower compared to the standard office concept. Open office definitely has advantages as well, but at the moment in my opinion it is not designed well enough. It still needs improvement and ideas to make it fully functional.
Some of the funny aspect of working from home is that it does not really matter how you look. I just have sport shorts and T-shirt all the time and it is comfortable to work. I do not really have that good understanding what office clothing should be and besides it seems to be a bit different between different departments. Now I have also noticed it is completely fine to take a nap during 30-minute lunch break, whereas in the office I always had to hide my tiredness and somehow go through the day if I felt tired. 15-minute power nap perfectly executed in lunch break is a powerful tool to try when feeling tired. Coffee breaks that I take now are used to take that essential D-vitamin from the sun on the balcony. How convenient.
In my opinion at the moment people should just try their best to have a nice working environment and enjoy the experience. Good chair, good office desk, good external screen adjusted in a right way for working. I have seen all kinds of pictures of workstation setups and some of them are not good at all in a long run. Easiest way to solve this problem is to try to mimic your setup in the office or ask some professional streamers how to do it. Working from home is not that difficult when you have a nice setup.
